SCHOOL BOARD MEETING – 6/10/08

Well, once again, we went to the gates of the city to proclaim the truth. It was quite a different atmosphere this time. You could see that a burden was laid on them this time around. The proud looks, that were so prevalent in the last meeting were not there. My prayer is that this burden would lead to godly sorrow. My prayer is that they would repent and be converted.

What a blessing it was to just do what God wanted us to do. As I prepared for this speech, the Holy Spirit reminded me that I can’t worry about whether or not the board changes their policies, but I just had to be faithful in presenting a message that glorified God. Three of us went up there, and God was glorified.

Here is my speech:

Noah Webster; one of our Founding Fathers, as well as a famous educator, said “All the miseries and evils from which men suffer: from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war precede from their despising, or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible.”

Mr. Chairman, members of the board, my name is Adam Tennant.

I stand before you today because our public school system is currently leading our children astray. I come, not only because I have the utmost concern for our children, but I am also here on your behalf. You see, the positions you were elected to put you in a position of responsibility.

In Mark 9:42, Jesus said “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.” You are responsible for teaching these little ones to fear the Lord, that they might not sin against God. That might not be in your job description, but be assured that God is holding you accountable for this.

As I look at this generation of young people, I see a lost generation. By the droves, they are turning to sex, drugs, abortion and suicide. It is no longer shocking to hear of a student murdering his classmates and teachers. Why is this? Well, one major reason is that, in 1980, the United States Supreme Court ruled, in the case of Stone v. Graham, that the posting of the Ten Commandments on a classroom bulletin board were unconstitutional. The court ruled that students may be induced to venerate and possibly even obey the dictates of the Ten Commandments. And, beloved, that is exactly what has happened.

Where am I going with this? Simple. The only hope we have, in rescuing our children, from this sea of iniquity is Jesus Christ. And the only way we can get them to Christ is the Law of Almighty God. Galatians 3:24 says that “the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”

Beloved, no matter how hard you believe that hell is not a real place, that will never change the truth that it is a real place. And so is heaven. If I were to ask all of you if you are good enough to go to heaven, you would probably say yes. Well, have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever taken God’s name in vain? Have you ever looked with lust? Jesus said “Whosoever looks upon a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her in his heart.” Be honest. You can’t hide anything from God. If you are guilty of these, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. That means eternity in hell.

You have just been confronted with the same Law that has been expelled from our schools. So, when you lie in bed tonight, and think about eternity, my prayer is that you will allow Jesus Christ to rescue you from the path of destruction in which you are following.

Remember this: He died to set you free, that you could set others free.
