GO!

“Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you are not saved yourself. Be sure of that.” – Charles Spurgeon

Hello beloved,

If you are born again, then I am sure you have the desire for others to be saved.  And that’s why I am writing this article…Because I want to get in touch with that longing in your heart to reach out to this lost and dying world.  Many Christians pray for the lost, but the truth is, they don’t really finish the prayer.  You see, the second half of prayer is “doing”.  I believe it was also Charles Spurgeon that said, “An ounce of obedience is worth more than a pound of prayer.” When we pray that God will save people, we don’t finish the prayer.  To finish this prayer, we must obey God and “go”!

Tonight, I would like to share a conversation I had with a couple of kids at the mall on Saturday night.  But, before I get into that, I would like you to read, and venerate on, the following words of Jesus.  This was the answer he gave when he was criticized for eating with “sinners”.

Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. (Luke 5:31)

All I want to say about this scripture is that I am not applying it for the purpose of defending who I hang out with.  No, I want you to see that we are called to reach out to people that everyone else has written off.  Now would be a good time for you to pause and pray about this scripture for a few moments.

When I go out, to witness, I always pray that the Holy Spirit would prepare divine appointments for me; and that He would lead me to the people he is already dealing with.  He never lets me down.

Saturday night, I approached two boys, around the age of nineteen.  They had several piercings, wore all black and fit the description of one of those kids no one wants to talk to.  Oh, we don’t mind staring at them, but we are far from ever speaking to one of them.

The truth is, they are somewhat intimidating.  They really don’t look like they want to talk to anyone.  Well, I handed them a couple of tracts and asked them if they would like to help me with a project I am working on.  They immediately said, “sure”.  Despite the vibes, they are dying for someone to listen to them.

We had a great time talking about many things.  But, instead of immediately talking about Jesus, I just let them tell me all about what they believed.  They said they followed a religion called Juggaloism, which was founded by a rock band called “Insane Clown Posse”.  I had heard a little about this religion before I got saved.  They were excited to tell me all about it.

We talked for a while about many other topics, such as evolution, the Christian heritage of this nation, and the authenticity of the Bible.  You could tell that they were soaking this up, especially Gary.

We ended up going through “the good person test”, which involves the Ten Commandments.  They found out that, based on God’s Standard, they weren’t nearly as good as they had thought.  They were actually lying, thieving, blasphemous, murderous, adulterers at heart. And they found out, for the first time, that they would go straight to Hell if they were to die soon.  At this point, I always like to ask people their age.  Then I’ll ask them how it feels to have their entire lives behind them and finally have certainty of where they will spend eternity.  If you ask this question, I can guarantee that you will see the answer in their eyes.  Many times, that’s the only answer you’ll get.  Some would think that they would be offended by this.  Not at all.  Beloved, if you show them you care, they will thank you for your concern.

Near the end of our talk, as I talked to them about a total surrender to Christ, I told them a little bit about my deliverance from narcotic pain killers; namely oxycontin.  Wouldn’t you know it; that Gary had been clean for four days.  He was recovering from an addiction to oxycontin.  Praise God for divine appointments.  Out of all the people at the mall that night, do you think it was a coincidence that I approached Josh and Gary?  Absolutely not!  It was God!

I then took him through Romans 7:16-25.  That’s one of my favorite sections of scripture to share with someone, who I can see is under deep conviction.  I ended up giving Gary a book, by Mark Cahill, called, “One Heartbeat Away”.  Please pray that the seed, which was planted, takes root and that he will come to repentance and faith in Christ.

Now, back to the scripture I quoted earlier from Luke 5:31, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” Beloved, these kids that are dressed in all black and covered with piercings are the, sometimes, the hardest people to approach.  But, once you talk to one of them, you will see that they want, so badly, to talk to you.  If you examine their arms, you will usually find cut marks.  Gary had them.  Satan has convinced them that they are worthless and might as well be dead.  They cut themselves just to know that they can still feel.  Even their own family treats them like they are already dead.  And many of them will be if the church doesn’t reach out to them.

They are sick…they need a doctor.  No…they need The Doctor.  It’s easy to come out of the woodwork to talk about Christ when you are around Christians.  But, what about those who don’t know Christ?  If you don’t tell them, who will?  The Insane Clown Posse? Or maybe Oprah Winfrey?  Not on my watch!

Beloved, If the whole world were dying of a plague, and someone gave you the cure, would you not do all that you could to get that cure to as many people as possible?  The truth is, the whole world is dying of a plague, called sin.  Jesus Christ gave Himself, becoming the cure.  After repenting of your sins and trusting in Christ, you now possess that cure.  Now, ask yourself this, “If saving someone from dying a physical death is important, how much more important is it that you save someone from a spiritual death?”

I don’t know how else to say this, beloved.  Please…reach out to these kids.  God might lead you to a different type of person.  But, as for me, I am burdened by these kids that are rejected by everyone.  I’ve got the cure.  Far be it from me to keep it to myself.  It doesn’t matter who God leads you to.  All that matters is that you obey Him and go!

Beloved, please reach out to this dying world.  I am sure that you have a wish for others to be saved.  Now, it’s time to do something about it.  I will include some links to some wonderful resources that will help you with reaching out.

In Christian love,
Adam Tennant

TEST THE SPIRITS

March 26, 2009

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.  (1 John 4:1)

Hello beloved,

Jesus warned us of a time that would come when many false prophets would appear and deceive many people. With some of the stuff I’ve seen in the past year or so, I would say that that time is upon us.  Around a year ago, I caught a program on God TV featuring a man named Todd Bentley.  The first time I saw his performance (and that’s all it was) I saw right through his sheep’s clothing. I saw the wolf within.  And I didn’t hesitate calling it what it was.

The thing that worried me was all the people that were getting sucked in by this phony.  Where was the discernment?  I’ll tell you where it was.  It was hidden away because of the fear they might be judging a prophet of God.  When you try to expose a wolf among us, you will hear that you had better not speak against a prophet.  They will say that we ought not touch God’s anointed.  These, and many statements like them, are what false prophets have long used to scare any discerning Christian from testing the spirits.  If Mr. Bentley had not been caught in his adulterous affair, the Todd Bentley circus would still be marching.

The fear of judging a man of God is one thing, but another (probably much more dangerous) deception is that of a prophet being accredited simply by the exercising of his or her spiritual gifts. When looking at the ministry of Todd Bentley, I had to ask the question, “Why would God use someone like him?” For, it was obvious that God used him.  I don’t doubt that some people were healed.  I’m sure that some of the testimonies of salvation were real as well.  And many were sucked into this phenomena, simply because of the manifestations that followed him.

So, the question is, “Can a man prophecy and perform signs and wonders, yet be a false prophet”.  We know we can judge a prophet as false if his prophecies don’t come true, but what if they do?  Well, let us dive into the scriptures tonight, to see if we can figure this out.  I’ve been blessed with some excellent Bible teachers and I’m thankful they showed me this stuff.  We all need to know it.  Especially right now, with people like John Crowder showing up.  (I’ll talk a little about him later. I’d also like to address “The Shack” as well.)  Turn to Deuteronomy, chapter thirteen.  I’ll try to walk through this quickly. After all, it’s pretty self-explanatory.

If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he preached rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way the LORD your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.  (Dt. 13:1-5)

We see, here, that someone can come to you and announce a miraculous sign or wonder, that later takes place, yet then lead you down a path of idolatry.  We are warned not to listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. (Dreamer was added for a reason.  Be very careful of all this “dreams and visions” stuff going around.  I didn’t say toss it out. I just said be very careful.)  Then we are told, in verse 3b, that God is using this to test us.  I’m guessing quite a few failed the test in the Todd Bentley saga.  Then we are told to put the prophet or dreamer to death.  Obviously, we wouldn’t put him or her to death today.  This just shows us how much God hates it when false prophets lead people astray.  Finally, I would encourage you to look up all the times, in Deuteronomy, that God calls us to “purge the evil from among us”.  Beloved, we are called to deal with sin.  Why?  Because, if we don’t completely eradicate the evil from among us, it will suck us in and entice us to follow false gods down the road of idolatry.

In the next paragraph, in the same chapter, you find the warning for us not to follow a close relative or friend into idolatry.  But, an important point I wanted to get to is found in the third paragraph of chapter thirteen; verses twelve through fifteen.

If you hear it said about one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you to live in that wicked men have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods you have not known), then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. Destroy it completely, both its people and its livestock.  (Dt. 13:12-15)

What I want to bring out, in this passage, is that an entire town is held responsible for dealing with those who might come in and try to lead people astray.  I wonder what God was thinking, last summer, when thousands from all over flocked to the city of Concord to see Todd Bentley.  I went.  And I believe that’s exactly what God called me, and others, to do.

Although I had seen enough of him on videos to see that he was a dangerous man, I knew I should see him in person to get the whole experience.  I won’t get into much of the event.  Just know that, though a spirit was moving, it was not the Holy Spirit moving that night.  It was sad to see so many Christians being fooled by this man.  But, it was just as sad to see that none of the local churches had shown up to expose this man.  After all, if this preceding section of Scripture is true (which it is), who is responsible for this man leading so many astray?  That’s right, the whole town.  And know this beloved, judgment begins in the house of God.  Will we be destroyed because of this?  Well, only time will tell.  But I’ll tell you that we are already being destroyed because of our lack of knowledge of the Word of Almighty God (Hosea 4:6).  Beloved, we must repent of our apathy.

On a side note, I will say that I was very glad to hear of, at least, two pastors in Kannapolis that warned their congregation of this wolf.  Praise the Lord for pastors that preach the truth and aren’t afraid to step on some toes.

While dealing with this issue, you need to know that you will have another opportunity to expose a false teacher coming to the area.  On Saturday, May 2, William Paul Young (author of “The Shack”) is coming to Halton Theater at CPCC.  I don’t know what he is planning to do, but I do know that his book is dangerously deceptive.  He is coming to our town to preach a gospel that is no gospel at all.  His doctrine is a lie from the pit of Hell and he must be exposed by the Church of Jesus Christ!  Beloved, it is our responsibility!  When these bands of falsehood come into the church we must take them on face to face.  We must purge the evil from among us!

So, I think we’ve answered a few questions tonight.  Can a man perform signs and wonders, yet be a false prophet?  Yes.  A good example of that would be the false prophet, Balaam, whom God used to prophecy to Israel (Nu 22-24).  Who’s responsibility is it to confront these false prophets?  The Church.  And finally, with all these questions being answered, we’ve gone over what we must do.  When William Paul Young comes to town, we’ve got to be there to confront him.  When Todd Bentley gets thrown into the spotlight again, we’ve got to confront him.

Beloved, many more will rise up, and we must take them out immediately.  I’ve attached a few links to a guy named John Crowder.  Don’t laugh at this guy.  He is a mockery to Christ, yet he comes in His name.  He is leading people astray and he must be taken down.  You should know that some of the links he has on his website (www.thenewmystics.com) include Morningstar Ministries, Rick Joyner, International House of Prayer and Jason Upton.  If you follow any of these ministries, you might want to send them an email to find out why they would allow this guy to associate himself with them.  You might not be pleased with the response you get.

Beloved, I hope you’ll apply these truths to how you live out your walk with Christ.  Here are the links to John Crowder.  They will definitely shock you:

WHY IS GOD TAKING DOWN THE AUTO INDUSTRY?

March 18, 2009

Hello beloved,

All the recent news about the failing automobile industry has prompted me to write a little bit about how we Americans are just getting what we deserve for years and years of bowing down to these hunks of metal. Unfortunately, it has become completely normal for a man to fall in love with cars. When, in essence, they provide nothing more than transportation from point A to point B, many have fallen into the worship of these idols. Have I gone too far on this one? Well, let me just tell you that I am speaking as one who fell deeply into this form of idolatry. So why don’t we visit a few scriptures tonight, but I would also like to briefly share with you my experience.

‘Do not turn to idols or make gods of cast metal for yourselves. I am the LORD your God. (Lev. 19:4)

You might think this is trite that I would use this scripture because it specifically mentions idols made of cast metal. Truthfully, the material makeup of an idol is of little importance. The point is, that the Word of God commands us not to turn from God, to idols. Now, how many people do you know(maybe yourself) that might spend several hours washing and waxing a car, yet haven’t spent an half an hour reading God’s Word all week? Come on, now. That used to be me. The fact is, I not only devoted my time to my precious car; I also devoted much of my money to pay for it. And truth be told, I’m still paying for mistakes I made five years ago. So, let me tell you how I got into this stuff.

It started some where around 2001. I had a nice 1999 Mazda Protege, which was completely paid off. It was the most basic model you could get, but it was a nice car. It was all I needed. One day, I went to the dealership to get my car serviced and started looking around. Well, I left the lot that night with a brand new 2003 Mazda Protege with all the bells and whistles; not to mention a $325 car payment.

About a year or so later, I was on the same lot, getting my car serviced. I started looking at the new Mazda 5’s. I had recently been given a promotion at work, so I figured it was time to get something a little nicer; you know, with more “stuff”. But before making a decision like this, I decided to do the responsible thing and spend the rest of the day thinking about it. Well, that night I came back and traded in my year old Protege for a brand new Mazda RX-8 sports car. That one cost me around $415 a month, and it had to run on 93 octane gas.

Around a year later, the same thing happened. But this time, I actually traded in my silver sports car for a red one. It was the same year, but had leather seats and all that jazz; not to mention a six-speed transmission. I drove off with the sports car of my dreams… and a $510 monthly payment.

So, can you see how stupid we can be when we start putting things before God? Of course, this was before I got saved. I actually got saved while I owned this car and got rid of it about a year and a half later. My only option was trading down and taking a significant out-of-pocket loss. And I’m still way upside-down in the car I ended up with. That’s just an example of how, regardless of whether our sins are forgiven, we might still have to suffer the consequences of past sins. (By the way, it’s a Christian principle to never go into debt. I don’t believe that it is ever God’s will that you lease or finance a car. Email me if you have questions about this one.)

Beloved, I am using myself as an example. The best part about this story is that, when I became born again, I repented of my idolatrous love for cars. Now I could care less what I drive, as long as it safely gets me from point A to point B.

So, after reading this, what is your take on it? This story might seem funny to you, but it is not funny to God. He said in Deuteronomy 32:21, “They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols.” Our idols make God jealous and angry. Is Jehovah the type of God that will repay us for our idolatry? Well, just read how he dealt with Jeroboam in 1 Kings 14:9-10 and you tell me.

9 You have done more evil than all who lived before you. You have made for yourself other gods, idols made of metal; you have provoked me to anger and thrust me behind your back.” 10 ‘Because of this, I am going to bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off from Jeroboam every last male in Israel—slave or free. I will burn up the house of Jeroboam as one burns dung, until it is all gone. (1 Kings 14:9-10)

Before you just shrug this off, you should read a few more scriptures, showing how much God hates idols…and those who cling to them.

I hate those who cling to worthless idols;
(Psalm 31:6)

All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind; they are ignorant, to their own shame. (Isaiah 44:9)

Here is a good one to end on:
All the makers of idols will be put to shame and disgraced; they will go off into disgrace together. (Isaiah 45:16)

As a nation, not all of us are guilty for the idolatry in the automobile industry. But, there are obviously quite a few who are, or the industry wouldn’t be making the outlandish cars that they make. No longer is a practical car good enough. But Praise God, things are about to change. I don’t know if you have heard it, but people are starting to talk about how car makers should start making cheaper cars. God has a way of dealing with our idols doesn’t he? For years, the rims kept getting bigger and bigger. Sound systems were getting more and more sophisticated. We thought it was an absolute necessity to have DVD players, GPS systems, etc. But now, as God is dealing with our little god of money, and many are losing their faith in the dollar, people are starting to demand more practical cars.

Beloved, if you still find yourself attached to your precious automobile, you need to repent. You need to turn away from your worthless idols and turn to God Almighty. And let me make this clear, if you don’t put your idols away, you and your idols with “be put to shame and disgraced” and “will go off into disgrace together.” This doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of your car. It simply means that you need to put it where it belongs in your priorities. And you know exactly what that means. God doesn’t hate cars, but he does hate those who cling to them and make them into idols.

Most of you have probably never gone down the road of stupidity which I traveled. But, regardless, I think we can all learn something out of this lesson. If you take nothing else from this article, I pray that it will help you to stay out of debt by purposing your hearts to never get into debt. Hopefully, this article will help you to see why God is taking down the automobile industry. It’s one of the highest forms of materialism(idolatry) in America. It makes me so sick when I see a hummer with 40″ rims pulling into the abortion clinic. They can’t afford their baby, but they don’t have a problem making payments on a hunk of metal. Hmmm.

Beloved, now is not a time to have things out of whack. It’s time to get things in order. Judgment is already here and this is just the tip of the iceberg. If this nation does not repent of her moral depravity, we will see judgment unlike anything we have ever seen.

Be on your guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. (Mark 13:33)

In Christian love,
Adam Tennant

THE MORAL DEPRAVITY OF AMERICA…WHO’S RESPONSIBLE?

March 13, 2009

Hello beloved,

As I pen this letter tonight, our nation is in great trouble. I have no doubt that most of you have picked up on the rapid downward spiral she has experienced in the past year. And I have little doubt that you would also agree that we are experiencing the judgment of God. God has sent us sign after sign, calling us to repentance, but to no avail.  It wasn’t until late September of last year, that more Americans started to see that their little god of money could not rescue them. God has continued to pull the financial rug out from under us, yet we still kick against the goad. It sometimes frightens me to think about what He will have to do to finally bring us to our knees. The homosexual agenda is growing stronger and stronger, taking hold of every thing they can get their hands on. Feminism has long been a controlling force, yet now our churches have been overpowered by this rebellious spirit. The spirit of abortion has been prevalent in the world, and the church is not far behind. The only difference is that we(the church) call it birth control*. Now, we have the most godless man ever sworn in as the Commander in Chief to these United States of America. Yet, all we do is complain about it. The most innocent of innocent life has now been laid on the chopping block(of course, the axe was made ready by our very own George W. Bush). And the church wants to act surprised. So, what can we do about it? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. That is, unless we want to repent of our apathy. What if churches across this nation started repenting? Oh, if we would only repent.

My question tonight is, “Who is responsible for the moral breakdown and depravity of this once godly nation?” After my opening comments, you shouldn’t have any question where I stand. In 1620, God entrusted this nation to a covenanted group of Christians known as the Pilgrims, to be a city set on a hill and a beacon of light in this dark world. And it has been the church who has allowed her to sink in to her depravity. I would like to hear back from some of you, on your thoughts about this. But, regardless of what any of us think, the answer to this question can only come from one place…the Word of Almighty God. So, tonight, let’s take a look at a few scriptures, starting with Acts 20:20-27.

20 You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. 21 I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.

22 “And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. 23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. 24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.

25 “Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men. 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. (Acts 20:20-27)

Now, we see here, that Paul did not hesitate to preach anything to the Ephesians. He declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus. That’s extremely important; you know, to preach repentance and salvation. But, is that the whole will of God? I think we would all agree that it’s not. In verse 22, Paul tells us that he is going to Jerusalem, not knowing what’s going to happen to him. Yet he is sure that persecution and suffering is going to come. Can we say that we share with Paul in that? Do we really suffer hardships or persecution for the sake of declaring the will of God? If you aren’t, then you probably aren’t declaring the whole will of God. And only when we can come to the point that our lives are worth nothing to us will we be able to do such.

In verses 26-27, you see where Paul is going with all this. A place that the church doesn’t dare touch…the doctrine of bloodguilt. Paul proclaims that he is innocent of the blood of all men. How can he say that? Because he did not hesitate to proclaim the whole will of God. Can we apply that to today? Would you agree with me that it is the will of God that we stop killing our children? Do you think it is the will of God that we get out of our churches and do something about the killing that takes place right down the street? Of course it is. But, here’s a big question. When was the last time you heard a Pastor sound the trumpet about an abortion clinic down the streets, and then lead his flock to the very gates of Hell? When, beloved? Then is he declaring the whole will of God? Is he innocent of the blood of those babies? What about the congregation? I just want you to think about these questions. You have to answer them. If I’m wrong then I will be held accountable for it. But, if I’m right, than how are we going to give an account for the shedding of so much innocent blood?

Another question you’ll need to answer is, “Am I making a correct exposition and application of this scripture?” That’s a very important question. Because our opinions simply don’t matter and there’s only one true interpretation of scripture. So, please study these scriptures to see what God is saying.

Let us also quickly visit a very well-known section of scripture, in Ezekiel, concerning bloodguilt. I would imagine that Paul had this in mind when he penned these words in Acts, chapter twenty. Like Ezekiel, Paul was a true watchmen. So, let’s turn to Ezekiel.

1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your countrymen and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman, 3 and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people, 4 then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not take warning and the sword comes and takes his life, his blood will be on his own head. 5 Since he heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning, his blood will be on his own head. If he had taken warning, he would have saved himself. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.’ (Ezekiel 33:1-6)

Focusing on verse six, what is it that made the watchman accountable for another man’s blood? That’s right, he is guilty of that man’s blood because he saw the sword coming and did not blow the trumpet to warn the people. Now, with that being said, have you seen a sword coming to this land? If so, have you blown the trumpet? I know I said I’d stop at the last scripture, but God took it a step further so I think we should. Let’s look at verses seven through nine.

7 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 8 When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his ways, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. 9 But if you do warn the wicked man to turn from his ways and he does not do so, he will die for his sin, but you will have saved yourself. (Ezekiel 33:7-9)

God made it very personal with his chosen watchman. He said, “I have made you a watchman”. Have we not all been made watchmen and priests? Then he told Ezekiel that he must warn that wicked man. He was not being called to sound a trumpet to a random people, he had to go to that man in his sin and dissuade him from his ways. Are we doing that church? Or do we sink in our apathy as the world goes to Hell?

Beloved, the doctrine of bloodguilt is simply not taught. I can’t beat it into your head, but I don’t mind banging the same note over and over in hopes that you hear it. I’m just hitting the one with God’s fingerprint on it.

The sword is drawn and is coming on this land. I only pray that we we heed the warnings. Until then, may we all be haunted by the blood of these little babies.

In Christian love,
Adam Tennant

*I think an explanation to my statement paralleling abortion and birth control is in order. You are probably not aware of this, but some forms of abortion are actually abortifacient. Abortifacients are types of birth control that work after conception by killing the newly conceived child. These include oral contraceptives (the “Pill”), IUD, Norplant, Depo-Provera, Emergency Contraception (the “Morning-After Pill”), and anti-fertility vaccines. Some of these abortifacients kill the child occasionally, but some, such as IUD’s, kill the child every single time. Doctors will rarely make you aware of this(I could only speculate why). So, I would encourage you to do your homework on this. It’s a big issue in God’s eyes.

Regarding this issue, I must also state, that it is my personal conviction that any type of contraception or birth control is not God’s perfect will. I also believe I could back it up in God’s word. However, I this is something I think you just need to pray about and study God’s word to see what He has to say. You won’t find this teaching in most Protestant churches, so I understand that it’s a shocker. You do with it what you want. I know it took me a while for God to get me to this conclusion. If any of you have any questions about this, I would love to share some stuff with you.

WHO DO YOU SAY THAT HE IS?

March 10, 2009

Hello beloved,

I would like to talk to you tonight about Jesus. To narrow it down, I want to ask you a question, “Who do you say that He is?” Let’s go to the gospel of Mark to see who the people of Jesus’ day said that He was. In Mark, chapter eight, a beautiful picture is painted of what those who walked with Jesus actually thought of Him. It’s quite a different perception than how much of the world today(and the church for that matter) views Jesus. According to popular opinion today, Jesus was meek and mild and would have never judged a thing. Oh, beloved, He was meek. Make no mistake about that. But don’t mistake meekness for weakness. Meekness is basically power under control. He was King of kings and Lord of lords. At any time, He could have wiped out all of His enemies. But He was meek. And He was on a mission…to lay down His life that others might live(eternally).

Regardless of how we view Jesus today, this section of scripture provides a clear account of how people(the world and the church) viewed Jesus when He walked this earth. So, if you have your Bibles, turn to Mark 8:27-28. I’ll provide the verses here, but you should make some notes in your Bible.

Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” (Mark 8:27-28)

In this passage of scripture, we find that Jesus was asking His disciples who people said that He was. He was not asking for their opinion. He was asking for them to take the information they had gathered from others and give Him an answer on who the people said that He was. If you asked some people that question today, you might get answers like “Some say Dr. Phil; others a fat black woman(reference to ‘The Shack’); and still others, a homosexual.” You might think that I am joking, but I have actually heard people compare Jesus to the latter two. The thing is, they have no scriptural basis for these assumptions. No, this is who they need Jesus to be so they can justify their sin and their misconstrued perceptions of God. Regardless of who people might compare Jesus to today, let’s take a look at the men that they mistook Jesus for in His day.

John the Baptist – Do you know the first recorded message of John the Baptist? The first recorded words from his mouth were, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” (Mt. 3:2) By the way, Jesus began His preaching ministry with saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” (Mt. 4:17) Then, in Mt. 3:7-12, John went on to call the Pharisees a “brood of vipers” and warned them to produce fruit keeping with repentance, lest they be cut down and thrown into the fire. Hmmm…do you think that the culture and church of today would mistake Jesus for a man like that? Not likely. I heard a man on the radio, the other day, say that the church should not take part in political activism because Jesus never really took on the government of His day. Really? Then why did they mistake Jesus for John the Baptist? Didn’t John the Baptist take on the government of his day? He sure did. That’s why he was thrown in prison. He confronted Herod for taking Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. (Mt. 14:1-12) So, if the people of Jesus’ day mistook Him for John the Baptist, we could safely say that Jesus was not at all the non-judgmental, meek and mild Jesus that we see Him as today. By the way, there are several instances of Jesus confronting the church(Pharisees and Sadducees) and politicians(Herodians).

Elijah – Elijah was another prophet who had no reserve when it came to stirring up trouble. Just like Jesus with the Pharisees, Elijah was always picking a fight. He did it on Mount Carmel with Ahab and the 400 prophets of baal(1 Ki 18:16-45). He was constantly confronting the government of the day. He actually mocked the false prophets on Mount Carmel and then called fire down from Heaven to consume them. We would say, today, that Jesus would never do anything like that. But, don’t forget Who sent the fire…

One of the prophets – This would include many prophets of God. And this would disprove the notion that, when Jesus came down, God all of the sudden changed. No, beloved. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change. Look at who the people of His day said that He was. Who are some of the prophets they might have been referring to? Possibly Jeremiah, who had maybe one convert that we know of. He constantly called the church and government of his day to repentance. Don’t forget, he also confronted the shedding of innocent blood. Isaiah rebuked the church for their hypocritical worship. In Isaiah 1:15, he said, “When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood;” Beloved, the church sits by, in apathy, as over 4200 babies are murdered every day through abortion. Our hands, too, are covered in blood. Isaiah confronted it in his day and Jesus would preach the same message today. Beloved, I could name prophet after prophet, and you would find men who dared not keep their mouths shut against the sin and idolatry of their day. What would the Bible look like had Nathan not confronted King David? First of all, you wouldn’t have Psalm 51, David’s beautiful psalm of repentance. Beloved, it was prophets like this that Jesus was mistaken for by the people of his day.

Now, I’m not saying that Jesus was any of the aforementioned people. He is much greater than any man to ever walk the face of the earth. He is God! But, He does have attributes; many of which we have tossed to the wayside(His justice and wrath, for example).

With all that being said, let me ask the question again, “Who do you say that He is?” Is He the meek and mild little lamb that would never judge or confront anyone? Or is He the Judge of the living and the dead; the King of kings; and the Lord of lords? And I dare not leave out that He is the spotless Lamb that was slain for our sins, full of mercy and compassion. But, know this, His judgment always precedes His mercy and grace.

Beloved, we need to stop letting feminists and limp-wristed preachers rewrite the Bible. Jesus has been painted to be a wimp. The sermon on the mount has been spiritually emasculated. It has become “un-Christian” to go out and call that which is good good and that which is evil evil. Anytime we quote Leviticus 18:22, which clearly calls homosexuality a sin, we are called hateful, judgmental bigots(and soon we will be arrested for it). We are told not to judge when we go to the abortion mills to confront the murder of innocent children. I even heard a lady tell a friend of mine, after he said, “unless ye repent you will all likewise perish”, that Jesus would never say something like that. We are told that if you want to really know God, forget the Bible and let’s meet at “The Shack”. So many false teachings about Jesus and His Word are filling every ear in America. And the church is not doing a thing about it. Why? I would say it is mainly because we don’t really know the Word of God.  Hosea 4:6 says, “my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.” We don’t want don’t study God’s Word, therefore we don’t fear Him, therefore we are being destroyed…at His hand mind you.

I don’t want to take all of your time tonight, so let me finish up. Let me close with a few questions. Beloved, are you going to accept that God has called you to declare a message of repentance, justice and mercy. Or will you just stick with the mercy message, like most of the church? My prayer is that you hear from God tonight and boldly go out to declare His message. It won’t do you a bit of good if you just hear from me. You’ve got to get on your knees, and get in the Word, and see if what I am saying is the truth.

May we all have eyes to see and ears to hear.

In Christian love,
Adam Tennant
